        The story he mentioned...He wasn't dense at all. Rather he was pretty accepting and proactive especially in the later portion of the novel.

        I've read up to date. He wasn't as dense as he was goal oriented, He didn't trust right away. Also, he didn't have the strength or information to protect Violet, especially after the school ambush where he was at risk of losing ruby. So while he seemed "dense" he really wasn't. In my opinion at least. After his training with ruby's mom he got significantly more proactive. After Adonis too he got even more so.

      I killed the player of the academy I would say its around the same level of writing better characters to me but sometimes hard to know where we are in the story.
