Chapter 101: Tension in the Air

“Now what…” Kyle repeated for the third time, peering at her with doubtful eyes.

“Don’t worry, keep talking.”

The smell of disinfectant was faint, perhaps because his uniform was tight around his body. Noah stopped sniffing and stared somewhere in his chest.

“…I don’t know what you’re thinking. You can keep staring at me like that, but nothing will come out.” Whether her gaze was burdensome or anything, Kyle pushed her away and took a step backward.

Still, Noah persistently examined the movements of his arms, shoulders, waist, and legs. There was not a single peculiarity.

I don’t think he’s hurt…

Noah then recalled that some of the passengers were injured at the commotion in the corridor. Perhaps the smell had originated from their side.

Noah narrowed her eyes and searched Kyle’s face one more time. There was a thin cut under his left eye.

When she had seen it in the mana operating room, she merely thought it was a graze, but under a brighter light, the wound stretched quite long and was deep.

Kyle’s skin was so flawless that he didn’t look like a person who was just in a crime scene, making his wound even more prominent.

“Could I apply some medicine?”

“What?”

But Noah had already decided the same moment she asked. She ought to treat his wound, she thought, and there wasn’t a need for a doctor.

She dragged him towards the corner of the room and rummaged through the drawers of the counter beside. Then, she took out the necessities. She also did not forget to issue a stern warning lest he might attempt to escape again.

“Stay where you are. It won’t be fun if you move.”

“How intimidating…” Kyle grumbled. As Noah thrust her face close to him again, he paused and finally zipped his mouth.

When she opened the lid of the disinfectant, its strong scent spread throughout the entire room.

“Ah.” Only then did Kyle realize what Noah was going to do. As she began to dab a small amount of the medicine on his cut, his violet eyes showed a hint of embarrassment.

“…Miss Noah, you don’t have to treat this little wound.”

Without listening, Noah returned the disinfectant on the desk and then took the ointment next. “You shouldn’t be leaving a scar on your pretty face. But, if I applied this a little wrongly, I could hurt your eyes.”

Every time Noah’s finger brushed against his wound, Kyle’s eyes seemed to quiver. A few times his violet orbs wandered from side to side, unable to look at her directly, and soon fell on the floor.

With his eyes almost closed, Noah could see his features more clearly. Ooh, he’s handsome and really cool.  She placed gauze over his wound and stuck a tape on top of it.

“So, Lenia will be arrested as soon as we reach the land… Then, there’s one left. What happened in the mana operating room until this morning?” She asked once she had finished.

“I’ve recorded everything.”

“What? Did you record in the meantime?”

“Video is the most important evidence, especially when there’s not much proof left like this case.”

Noah couldn’t commend any more this man’s preparedness. Had he ever taken a moment to relax, even for one second?

“We’re going to go back and collect all the evidence we’ve collected so far and review it. Of course, I’ll show it to you.” Kyle continued.

Only

“Oh, that’s right. Speaking of evidence, what were the pieces of metal that were in the mana operating room?”

Kyle, who had been avoiding her gaze, lifted his head and looked at her in surprise. “You saw that. I was going to let you know when the review results come out.”

“Why? Was it something weird? What did you shoot?”

“A living human.”

Noah’s eyes grew at the unexpected remark. “Not a magic device?” She asked.

“They looked really human until I shot them. The most valid assumption I can think of right now is that I’ve been confused. I don’t know. I’ll see what I missed once I replay it.”

Noah was lost in thought, her fingers still fiddling across Kyle’s smooth cheeks. If the opponent had used bewildering magic, they should be a wizard, and if they belonged to the magic division similar to the guy who cast a spell on the train to Central Edman…

Noah’s thoughts then drifted to the charismatic blond man, Adrian Rossinell, the Minister of Magic, who was greatly suspicious. When we get to Tezeba, we need to dig into him a little more…
