Chapter 39: Resemblance

“I know there’s something Miss Noah hasn’t told me.”

“Is that so?” Park Noah leaned her back on the couch, her arms laid on the armrests. For a moment, Kyle Leonard caught a glimpse of glittering curiosity in her ocean eyes.

The most evident distinction between Park Noah and Eleonora Asil was their eyes. Although they exhibit the same appearance, the blue orbs shone differently. Park Noah’s looked innocent and feeble while the witch’s eyes glared and scorned.

At that moment, Kyle Leonard felt he was facing the real Eleonora Asil. He noticed the familiar conceit, albeit faint, that twinkled in her eyes. The woman across him did not appear languid anymore; instead, her face looked bleak. A feeling of resentment quietly crept in him.

Kyle Leonard snapped from his trance and spoke with a sigh. “I would be grateful if you would consider the questions I didn’t ask as the utmost apology I can express for my rudeness.”

“Hm…” Park Noah hummed, tapping her fingers playfully on the chair’s armrest.

“But of course, keep in mind that this does not mean that Miss Noah’s charges have been completely lifted. This will be the last time my personal feelings will be involved in the investigation. You promised to cooperate, so please keep no information about Muell from me until I give you the news, and stop interacting with Lenia Valtalere…”

“Wow, you knew that already? Even about Lenia?”

At her feet, the young dragon approached. Park Noah lifted the dragon and placed him on her lap, tilting her head in amusement, “You really don’t miss anything, even the most trivial. It’s scarier than what I read in letters.”

Letters? Noticing the frown on his face, Park Noah rose from her seat, the corners of her mouth curling into a mischievous smirk. Then, she poked Kyle Leonard with her thin arms.

“I’ll cooperate with the investigation with all my remaining passion, so don’t worry. Is today’s interrogation over now?”

“…Yes,” He replied, his eyes fixed on her apricot waves he was so sick of. But, with another take, he realized that her outrageously red hair which radiated with the sunset did not look too bad. At least, it didn’t seem that pests crawled under, he thought.

Soon, Kyle Leonard faced the wooden door, gripping the knob with the strength of his unsteady hand.

“So, it’s goodbye, sir. It was nice to meet you.” Park Noah waved her hand at the back of the investigator through the door that fell ajar. The baby black dragon gently wagged its tail at her lap, mimicking her.

“Please call me when you retire. I’ll hire you as a butler.”

“I’m fine.”

“You can change your mind anytime.”

The door closed without his reply. On the other side, Kyle Leonard stared at the thick wood for a moment, and with a long breath, he turned around.

Still, he was relieved that the person he met wasn’t the real Eleonora Asil. If the evil witch had a dragon imprinted on her, it would never have been an exaggeration to say that she would become the most powerful.

She was an obvious liar, anyway. Besides, it was a hassle, but… it’s like a sloth that’s fun to raise…

Kyle Leonard forced his train of thoughts about Park Noah to stop. There was no time to delay. The investigator cannot afford to be distracted at such a critical moment. Awaiting him at the capital was strenuous work.

The next day, however, Kyle Leonard felt the need to correct the assumption that he had a pretty good grasp on the woman named Park Noah.
