Married to the Protagonist
Chapter 3: Loveless Marriage (1)

Chen Jinyao: “…What for?”

“Suspected of prostitution.”

Obviously, the one who answered her question just now wasn’t Yan Cheng.

Chen Jinyao’s eyes were moist from having recently woken up. Annoyed, she turned over in bed and shrank back into the warm quilt. On the other end of the line, Yan Cheng calmly explained the whole process of the incident to her.

On the pillow-side, Du Ni the cat sat up and gracefully walked over to Chen Jinyao. He laid his body against her neck and started meowing and whining continuously while wagging his tail.

“Du Ni, don’t make a fuss,” Chen Jinyao helplessly scolded.

The voice on the phone suddenly stopped speaking and was quiet for a long time. Yan Cheng said, “Even if Zhou Chao doesn’t turn up, I’ll get someone to find him sooner or later.”

“Isn’t Zhou Chao cousins with Zhou Xue?” after scolding the cat, Chen Jinyao felt more awake. She turned on the bedside lamp and asked, “Are you okay with that?”

The city had fallen asleep at two o’clock in the morning.

Since the streets were devoid of traffic, the surroundings were very quiet.

After a long pause, Yan Cheng laughed and said: “There’s nothing to be reluctant about.”

After their first meeting, Yan Cheng and Chen Jinyao agreed to an arranged marriage.

The two sides had no affection for each other, but their parents were impatient. However, as long as they didn’t reject each other too much, they both shared a highly consistent view of how their married life should be like. After much discussion, they both willingly accepted their family’s marriage arrangements due to their ‘comrade-like’ idea of marriage.

Their union was a match made in heaven.

But the truth was, early on before their marriage, the Young Master Yan had a special liking for Zhou Xue who now became the wife of Huo Qidong

In order to completely dispel Yan Cheng’s infatuation and to ensure he doesn’t make a fool of himself in front of the Huo family, the Yan family arranged several blind dates for the young master. Yan Cheng refused their arrangements vehemently at first, but his mother later forced him to give up after threatening to kill herself. Most families would refuse a marriage alliance to a man who harbored another woman in his heart, especially if that man loved his woman to the point of madness. Only the Chen family was willing to seek him out.

Unlike Yan Cheng’s ill-fated romance which ended up becoming the talk of the town, only the Chen family was aware of Chen Jinyao’s affection for Huo Qidong since childhood. After Huo Qidong married Zhou Xue, her wishful love for him was doomed to be scarred.

However the Chen family still wasn’t aware of one thing.

The Chen Jinyao right now was no longer the Chen Jinyao of the past.

Only

The bar Er Guan will remain closed down for a period of time.

That’s the nice way of saying it, but to be blunt, it’s actually being sealed off.

Zhou Chao had retaliated too quickly. When he made his move, the police quickly arrived and found evidence of prostitution. And of course, as boss of Er Guan, Yan Cheng had no choice but to bear the fault of others.

Chen Jinyao couldn’t quite understand how a man who obsessively chased after Zhou Xue could turn cold so quickly, and even say in ridicule, ‘There’s nothing to be reluctant about.’

She guessed that it must have something to do with a man’s dignity or inferiority.

“So can you drop that silly cat and come here to bail me?” Yan Cheng tiredly said as he sat in the interrogation room. The man uncrossed his legs, loosened his tie, and stretched his neck twice. His patience was finally exhausted.

“No.” Chen Jinyao answered him without a thought. There was no semblance of a self-conscious wife who cared for her husband’s feelings.
