Absolutely, the author leaves notes for people who have little or no knowledge of ancient Greece, explaining the simpler things, like what things are, who people are and why they're important. The author also does a really good job of slowly introducing the reader to the world, the customs, and relations between the different players without huge info dumps or needing much prior knowledge.

I really like this scenario but characters and dialogue are badly written :/ you just have to turn your brain off and you are good to go

This book is awesome if you're into historical fiction. It has some ancient warfare and the author really knows their stuff, making it feel super realistic.

I'm on my 3rd re-read of this novel, and the thing that captivated me the first time was just how much research, and effort was put into crafting a realistic ancient world, even down to the obscure customs of the ancient Mediterranean. Plus the authors additions to fill in the gaps aren't at all obvious and seem very plausible and realistic, ever since I've been looking for more novels that share the same fully realised and realistic historical setting but they're few and far between
