Bai Xiaonian said that Song Yao had woken up after the anesthetic wore off. Lin Nuan’s anxious heart was finally put at ease, and her eyes were suddenly overwhelmed with a stinging sensation.

Bai Xiaonian was someone who couldn’t conceal her thoughts. From her light tone of voice, Lin Nuan guessed that Song Yao should be in a pretty good state.

“Just now, I went in and shared a few words with Song Yao. She’s doing fine. Bai Jinyu checked her and said that she’s doing well too. He asked me to tell you not to worry! Do you want to say something to her? I could get Dr. Bai to take the phone to her!”

Bai Xiaonian seemed to be worried that Lin Nuan wouldn’t believe what she said about Song Yao doing fine.

Bai Jinyu was speechless.

“It’s okay, no need. So long as she’s well!” Lin Nuan said with reddened eyes, her voice a little choked.

In the distance, Xie Jingqian saw Lin Nuan standing in a corner with reddened eyes. Seeing Lin Nuan hang up, Xie Jingqian drew two tissues and walked over to her.

Seeing two tissues appear before her eyes, Lin Nuan looked up to see Xie Jingqian gazing at her with a smile.

Lin Nuan reached for the tissue and gently wiped her eyelashes, worried that her tears would mess up her makeup.

“How’s your friend?” Xie Jingqian asked.

“She has woken up! Bai Jinyu said that she’s okay now…” Lin Nuan smiled, holding the tissue that now had a dab of mascara on it in her hand.

You Nainai wasn’t all that familiar with Xie Jingqian, so she stayed beside Lin Nuan and didn’t utter a word.

“Bai Jinyu, Dr. Bai! Since Dr. Bai said she’s fine, she’ll definitely be fine!” Xie Jingqian put an arm around Lin Nuan’s shoulder and comforted her. “Don’t worry so much. It’s your wedding today, a once-in-a-lifetime thing!”

“Not necessarily so!”

An unharmonious voice with a smile came from behind Xie Jingqian and Lin Nuan.

Turning around, they saw that it was Tang Xi who had come out of the washroom. He was wiping his hands with a tissue, a devilish smile in the depths of his eyes.

Xie Jingqian was rendered speechless.

Was Tang Xi there to seek trouble?

“In this day and age, there’s no such thing as one marriage in one lifetime. Plenty of people divorce and remarry a second, third, or even fourth time… Xie Jingqian, how old are you to still be so naive?” Tang Xi casually tossed the tissue in his hand into the trash can, then stuck his hands into his pockets.

Xie Jingqian couldn’t resist laughing out loud. It seemed like every time Tang Xi got into a conflict with Lin Nuan, he ended up losing completely!

Tang Xi changed the topic. “Today, when I saw you leave in a car, I thought that you were trying to run away from the wedding and Lu Jinnan was giving chase at the back. I even helped you block Lu Jinnan for a while. Who knew that you would still end up coming back!”

“When President Tang got married, did your wife run away from the wedding?” Lin Nuan then asked. Without waiting for Tang Xi’s reply, she nodded her head and added, “After all, Mrs. Tang was still young then, she might have felt the need to expand her horizons a little more!”

Tang Xi couldn’t hide the rage in his eyes. “Who told you that my wife ran away from our wedding?”

“Then what made you think that I was running away from my wedding?” Lin Nuan spoke smoothly. The following words pricked Tang Xi like a blunt knife. “My husband has a clean private life, and he didn’t fool around before we married. After we got married, so many women threw themselves at him, and he rejected them all! He’s not like some other men who, before they got married, had a different woman beside him every day! Why should I run away from my wedding?”

Tang Xi was speechless.

Right, he was the man who had a different woman next to him all the time before getting married!

“Who knew!” The corners of Tang Xi’s lips turned up. “Perhaps… right before getting married, you were regretting getting married to an old man!”

“Really? Then I must call Mrs. Tang and ask if she’s regretting it!” Lin Nuan revealed a smile at Tang Xi. Her smile was as vibrant and professional as the one she displayed on television—standard and official.

Tang Xi was speechless.

It seemed like he had shot himself in the foot once more.

“How have I never noticed that your combat power is so strong!” Xie Jingqian was tickled by what Lin Nuan said. “Tang Xi is famous in Jincheng for having a venomous tongue! He has never given face to anyone, be it a man or a woman!”

“Have I never given you face?” Tang Xi asked Xie Jingqian with a dark face.

Xie Jingqian let out a “hur hur” before adding, “Nope, Third Brother! You shot me into outer space with your retorts!”

After failing to watch a good show and ending up with a great deal of accumulated anger inside of him and wasting a red packet instead, Tang Xi found an excuse to leave soon after.

Before he left, Tang Xi was still asking himself how free he was to have come over to see this good show starring Fu Huai’an.

As the host, Fu Huai’an still sent Tang Xi to the door. He said in a distant voice to Tang Xi, “Forgive me for any inconsiderate hospitality.”

“Mrs. Fu provided great hospitality!” Tang Xi was still fuming.

“Then, that’s great!” Fu Huai’an nodded as if that were truly the case.

Tang Xi retrieved a cigarette to bite at his lips, then handed one to Fu Huai’an.

After lighting up a cigarette, Tang Xi stuck both hands in his pockets and looked behind him. He saw people were glancing over at them, but no one dared to approach.

Tang Xi bit the cigarette and said, “Third Older Brother heard some news. Previously, that undercover task that Ming’an’s mother sent you to do, those who deserved to die have died, and those who deserved to be arrested were arrested. A few days back, someone from America made contact, and they’re offering some benefits in exchange for a person… Third Brother didn’t ask who it was in detail, but I heard that it has something to do with that undercover task. Be careful…”

Fu Huai’an’s deep gaze remained calm and emotionless. The warm orange shade from the setting sun outlined the man’s tall and broad figure, but no one could read his emotions.

“After all… you have such a high profile!” Tang Xi smiled, seemingly gloating over this.

Tang Xi then shifted the cigarette away from his lips and tapped away the ashes.

“Originally, I wasn’t planning on telling you, but Third Brother said… When he was still alive, he kept saying that he and his mother owed this to you regarding this matter!” Tang Xi was unwilling to say that person’s name. Every time he mentioned it, his heart ached.

After he finished speaking, Tang Xi threw his half-finished cigarette down, and faint sparks splattered all over the ground.

“Be careful! After all, you’re someone with a wife and child now!” Tang Xi then exhaled white smoke and walked towards his car.

Before night fell, Lin Nuan, Fu Huai’an, Liang Mulan, and Lin Jingquan sent the guests out. Old Master Lin and Old Madam Lin were also tired and wanted to go back first.

Before they left, Old Madam Lin lectured Lin Nuan on some things in her capacity as an elder, in a particularly strict manner.
