I read this LN a long time ago, and I LOVED it. It was by far one of my favorite stories out there.

But, now that I've come back to reread it... it's annoying.

The main cause of my annoyance is Ainz. He tries to act like a dignified ruler, and it leads to every one of his subordinates to misunderstand that he's a genius. One of my biggest pet peeves in LNs is the story being driven by misunderstandings. Which this story excels at. Watching Ainz be even more stupid than my 15 year old brother is actually the most irritating thing I've read in recent memory. I understand that the misunderstandings are supposed to have comedic effect, but it falls flat every single time.

Even though Ainz is unbearable, the story still has the coolness factor that it had when I read it last. I love necromancer-based content.

A little nitpicky thing here, but after the afterword where the author announces that Overlord is getting an anime, I noticed that there were an ever increasing amount of "speech tics" in characters, and different "anime-esque" words, like calling Enri's sister "imouto" for no reason, and Lupisregina going "~su" at the end of every sentence. It's really strange how far my enjoyment dipped after the anime announcement.

Honestly Genius.

It fits the 'mature' category well, it is not centered on comedy yet is kept interesting with comedic actions and jokes.

The main character is not "kill anyone who stands in my way" as he usually thinks more of his domain than himself, and tries to do whats best for the things he cares about. this novel feels slow at times, but thats when the point of view changes to better give an explanation and build the plot and detail.

I just remembered that i forgot to leave a review back at September. Ahem. The story is nicely done and enjoying to read. Not boring even though each chapter is long. This is still not completed actually, we're still waiting for vol. 14 like how we wait for Overlord 4

Just to let people know this LN is not finished there are just long waits between chapters as this is a Official LN that is very popular in japan. i think this will end at volume 17.

Though this is not the first novel with the villian is the main character, it is one of the best that it is done brilliantly. Some people might struggle reading this because of the main character's point of view, but it is entertaining to try to understand the so called "villian" in our world's point of view. It keeps you asking yourself about what exactly good and bad is.

One of if not the best novel I've ever read. The story is engaging and extremely well thought out. This is hands down the best game world novel the Mc can be cold and calculating and although he has immense strength never does anything without a plan. The side characters are very well fleshed out and each have their own unique personality. This is not by any means a child's book as it is thought provoking and filled with adult topics making it a breath of fresh air for the isekai genre.
