Chapter 81: Legal now

Orthopedic department #2 didn’t have different teams for joints and spines. The medical teams simply took turns receiving patients. They would then perform the necessary surgery for the patient, without the ability to choose from them. The director and vice director would personally take care of the difficult surgeries. Meanwhile, the attending physicians took turns for the regular surgeries.

Zhang Fan and Wang Yanan still didn’t have any patients of their own. It wasn’t their turn to receive patients yet, so they simply read some medical textbooks while waiting in the department. The other rotation doctors were busy with changing patients’ medicine, filling out paperwork, and so on. However, nobody gave any orders to Zhang Fan and Wang Yanan, which made the other rotation doctors really envious.

Near the end of today’s day shift, the hospital administration department phoned Zhang Fan. “Doctor Zhang, please come over to the administration department.” Zhang Fan didn’t ask what it was about. He simply went there after telling Wang Yanan where he was going.

“Doctor Zhang, please have a seat.” The director of the administration department warmly welcomed him. When Zhang Fan arrived, he saw that Li Hui as well as several other young doctors who had just joined the hospital last year were also here.

“Thank you, Director.” Zhang Fan sat down next to Li Hui.

“Okay, everyone’s here now. You’re all excellent doctors who are the youngest members on staff. Today, your medical licenses have arrived at the hospital. I’m here to congratulate each and every one of you. From today onwards, you’ll be real doctors with actual medical license and the ability to write prescriptions. This is a power that the government has given you, as well as a responsibility and duty. I won’t say much else. Everyone, please value this power of yours as you continue working in the medical field, and seriously carry out your responsibility and duty. Also, please remember to be cautious, cautious, and once again cautious when performing your work.”

The director of the administrative department had a serious expression. The young doctors also treated this seriously. After the director was finished speaking, a member of the administrative department brought over a copy of their medical licenses to sign. Each young doctor signed their license in turn, leaving a copy of their signature behind. In their future work, this would become the original copy of their medical license that other institutions would inspect to make sure everything was valid.

Li Hui registered himself for internal medicine. Zhang Fan unhesitatingly registered himself for surgery. The young doctors who’d just obtained their medical licenses were all delighted as they left the administrative department. They had spent five years on undergraduate studies and two years on medical internship. These seven years of hard work had all been for the sake of obtaining this medical license.

Although they were just beginning their careers as doctors, they were already in the medical field. “Hey, if this was the ancient times, we would be considered fellow disciples. Let’s all eat dinner together. Although we usually see each other around, we don’t know each other very well. Let’s count tonight as a graduation party and get to know each other better so that we can all take care of each other,” Wang Hong, a female doctor in gynecology, suggested. She was a Communist Party member, as well as the Secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee of Chasu City Hospital. She seemed like the type skilled in politics.

Everyone else agreed. Zhang Fan didn’t say anything, because Li Hui agreed for him. “The two of us arrived one year later than everyone else, but we all count as graduating in the same year. We’ve long since wanted to join an organization, but never had an opportunity. Secretary Wang, your recommendation is wonderful! You’re so considerate of us!” Although Wang Hong’s looks were only average, she had the aura of a professional career woman. Li Hui was the type who would instantly start showing off to any able woman.

Zhang Fan could only exclaim over how he finally had his medical license. Although the exam results had been posted long ago, he still felt something about finally obtaining his license. He probably never would have come here to the border province if he’d already had a medical license back then right after graduation. That might have also resulted in him not obtaining his Medical System. Zhang Fan had now lived away from home for two years, and truly entered the working society. This helped him to swiftly mature. He probably gained more than he lost.

Wang Yanan was really envious as she looked over Zhang Fan’s medical license. “You’ve finally obtained your license! Hey, let me take a picture. I’m going to show it off on WeChat moments to brag to my classmates.” Wang Yanan insisted on taking a picture of Zhang Fan together with his medical license.

Later that day after the work shift was over, Li Hui obtained some perfume from who knew where, and sprayed it all over himself. The smell was so strong that it even reached the second floor from the first!

“Is this some sort of herbal lotion perfume? Even herbal lotions aren’t so pungent,” Zhang Fan commented on Li Hui’s smell.

“What do you know? This is cologne, a type of perfume for men! Cologne! You’ve never heard of it?”

“Sure, whatever you say.” Zhang Fan held his nose as he stepped away from Li Hui. Zhang Fan didn’t know anything about perfume or cologne. He felt that Li Hui either have been scammed, or used way too much perfume—the smell was way too strong.

Wang Hong had reserved seats at a good restaurant named Fat Little Sheep. This was a very popular and well-known restaurant that specialized in instant-boiled and Mongolian mutton. The newly licensed doctors all met up together at the hospital entrance and went to the restaurant together.

Wang Hong didn’t only organize this dinner for the sake of everyone getting to know each other better. She was a bit more experienced than the others in social affairs. She had been the student council president back in college, someone extremely active in everything. Still, she had been unused to how things were in the hospital for the first six months after she joined. The hospital was different from a school, after all. Being active wouldn’t matter here, and people would even gossip about you. Skills were more important.

After suffering two small losses, Wang Hong started working harder, and received the recognition of the other doctors in the gynecology department. She also participated extremely proactively in all sorts of various hospital activities, showing off her talent in front of the leaders. She had obtained the position of Secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee of Chasu City Hospital due to former superintendent Huang Yun’s retirement.

Although the Communist Youth League Committee was an important organization, it was far too difficult for such an organization to get much done at a workplace where skills were the most important. Doctors and nurses would already be quite busy. It would be quite difficult to get any doctors to attend an event unless there were benefits involved. Wang Hong didn’t have the authority to order other doctors to participate. Earlier this spring, she had wanted to organize a tree-planting activity for the doctors, but not a single person signed up, so she could only give up.

Doctors wouldn’t care about such events at all. Although they were all educated, few would be Communist Party members. The great majority of doctors would be uninterested in politics, so they viewed such things quite lightly. Most doctors who joined the Communist Party only did so due to various circumstances. Very few doctors were actually proactively interested in politics.

Wang Hong had originally wanted to make use of these new doctors for organized Communist Party events. This would at least be much better than her having an empty Secretary title. Work would have to be accomplished slowly, step by step. After she had her position of Secretary for several years, she would possibly be able to enter a leadership position at the hospital. Basically, this was a shortcut.

Wang Hong was the magnanimous type who made sure that nobody felt left out. Everyone enjoyed the mutton hot pot. The young male doctors who had just joined working society would quite easily be attracted to such a mature female doctor their age. During this meal, several male doctors already became attracted to Wang Hong—Li Hui included.

Zhang Fan faintly felt that Wang Hong was similar to Kang Hua. Although Wang Hong was obviously more inexperienced, perhaps she would become just like Kang Hua 10 years down the road.

“I absolutely will conquer her.” Li Hui waved his fist after the dinner was finished and everyone else had left.

Zhang Fan knew that Li Hui was referring to Wang Hong. Although Zhang Fan wasn’t looking down on Li Hui, he felt that Li Hui was still so childish. It seemed likely that Wang Hong would easily be able to command Li Hui around but only tell him that “You’re a nice person, but…” later. That was the type of woman she was. She would only be naturally attracted to the strong. Normal people would only be able to interact with her seriously as if she was a buddha.

Zhang Fan didn’t even attempt to convince Li Hui to give up on Wang Hong. He felt that it was time for Li Hui to suffer a little. Li Hui’s little smarts and sweet mouth would only be able to fool young and inexperienced women. Wang Hong would be a natural counter to someone like Li Hui.

“Why aren’t you saying anything? Could it be that the woman you mentioned falling in love with is actually Wang Hong? Let me say first that we must compete fairly. No underhanded tricks allowed!”

“Such as?” Zhang Fan was rather curious. Just what exactly was Li Hui thinking he would even do?

“Do you even need to mention it? Such as telling her about Wang Sha!” Li Hui felt rather embarrassed, but still said it out loud in the end. It seemed that he was truly attracted to Wang Hong.

“I only discovered today that you’re even less than a thing. The word fickle describes you perfectly. Still, someone like Wang Hong isn’t suitable for you. You would far prefer a woman who’s silly and sweet.” Zhang Fan took the opportunity to lecture Li Hui, but didn’t care whether Li Hui actually listened or not.

“The hell do you know? Starting from tomorrow, just watch! As long as you don’t interfere, it’ll only take me one month! I’ll conquer her in just one month! If I fail, I’ll treat you to meals for one month straight!”

“No need. Just don’t interfere with my own affairs.”
