I will try to make it as simple as possible, this novel is just incredible. As you follow the steps of sunny as he crawls out of the most difficult situations and wants to find conviction, it just leaves me without words to describe it. I totally understand if you feel the pace really slow, I would really understand it. But. . . I you feel like going on. . . I promise you emotion, tears, cold sweat, and crave for survival to end the nightmare. Follow: Lost from Light, Sunless, the devil, or Sunny in his [fated] life or nightmare.

Loved everything until recently where the nerfs are starting to become obvious and out of place. Other than that love everything else. I don't want an OP MC who steamrolls everyone else but a better reasoning for the nerfs would be better or a reasonable power up so nerfs don't have to be placed to begin with because recently they seem out of place.

Over my course of reading novels for years I have to say this is by far one of if not the best novel I've ever read. The plot, background, and characters are original following NO cliches, they are utterly amazing and brings a new concept to magic and powers. The character in no way feel one dimensional and all feel like living, breathing characters. The main character is relatable but at the same time not as we are not in his situation. The MC has a brain and uses it yet actually has emotions even though at first he seems kind of cruel which was pretty cool also. MC is not OP but also not weak and uses his intelligence to defeat his obstacles including the greatest one, his flaw. Flaws an amazing system the author made to show some kind of downside of getting powers besides the obvious risk of death in a nightmare. At first I was unconvinced by the flaws importance to the novel and felt something were forced for about. . . 1 chapter. The chapter after I immediately realized the importance of the flaw and how satisfying it was to see him shape what he says in a way that doesnt break the rules of his flaw. Him outsmarting others even while under a flaw is the most satisfying thing ever. Personally, I abhore any romance in novels, mainly because its a reminder of my loneliness and it is usually forced or stupid, however even though they havent yet, there are moments, and I will genuinely stab my eyes out if the MC and Changing Star don't hook up, perfect webnovel couple. The grammar is impeccable, not sure about updating stability because I just read it all in one go. Background is detailed without being too much exposition, and is ORIGINAL and actually very interesting. Especially the authors way of utilizing prophecies which I cant go to far into because of spoiling. But the prophecy seemed well though out, had me wishing for a explanation, and honestly cant complain. All in all this novel is the one true gem of webnovel and should make all the other trash bow down and delete itself. I am now going to donate power stones every day. Please give this novel a chance, while its a little slow at first, after a few chapters it will not dissapoint. Especially the comedy, its actually funny. Author, never give up on this novel or I will hunt you down and make you continue writing. This feels like it has been written by a famous author.

This book is extremely well written especially when it comes to the lore and history of the world within itself. I am able to make multitudes of theories and guesses about how the story might play out and yet it still surprises me.

Probably one of the best web novels here. Interesting story, very respectable writing, high quality. My only issues are in the side cast of characters in this novel. There’s a very limited amount of them and half of them aren’t built up. Even in the main side character cast there’s atleast 2 that aren’t fully fleshed out. Cassie, Nephis, Sunny and maybe Jett are the only ones that really got any backstories.

Clearly my favorite novel so far. Each character is well designed and developped. The system is a breath lf fresh air. The main character is strong, but not too op and trains a lot. He is mischievious, smart and love to deceive people. . My favorite point is the lore. It's complex, Epic and full of mystery. Start it, you will love it.

By far one of the best, the character development, the world building, it's all just perfect. Highly recommended reading it if your looking for something :)

Top shelf novel. The magic system is flexible and well thought out. The world building is fascinating, every place unique and well described, the author really bringing you into the world. The characters are interesting, and watching their growth from the beginning has been a pleasure. I have loved every bit of the story so far, and I cannot wait to see where it will go.

TLDR: A genuine 5 star novel even for people with higher standards than the severely lacking readership that permeates this website. If you like a truly unique modern/fantasy world setting with powerup system, excellent writing, believeable complex characters that are actually flawed and make mistakes, cool fights, heart stopping tension and basically no romance, then just try it. You'll know within 5 chapters whether it's up your alley, none of that "it gets better at volume 7 bro, trust me" BS. . . The Longer Version: Alright, you've read the "it's perfect" "go read it" and other hollow reviews that can't recognize good writing if it ran them over. Their opinions are worthless, but they have stumbled on the right conclusion by accident. I'm gonna tell you exactly why this novel is worth your time with no spoilers. . . Shadow Slave is objectively well written. Themes and traits that you personally enjoy can cover up bad writing, but if you like the theme of Shadow Slave then this novel is one of very few on the entire site deserving of it's five star rating. Themes and fanservice are temporary, good writing is forever. Here's why Shadow Slave is well written:. . 1. No slow build up. No "the author really made it better after the first 800 chapters trust me bro It's 11/10 you just gotta invest the better part of 4 months of reading bro". I was personally hooked by the second chapter. If you aren't by chapter 10 then it isn't for you, and that's fine. We are dropped into the middle of the story, and the premise is unique while still relating vaguely to the "system powerup fantasy" that me and other apes on here salivate over. The story, theme and worldbuilding is slowly revealed at a well designed pace. The translation is also excellent, so no broken immersion because it's written like an A. I stenographer tried to interpret Raquesh at the dollar store. . . 2. Plot is complex and connected. Since apparently 95% of reviewers on here have never actually read good stories before, let me explain; There is no "and then this X thing was mentioned for 'world building' and was never used or referred to again in over 3000 chapters" BS. The story is complex and self referential. Things that are mentioned in passing as 'worldbuilding' and 'mysteries' are actually important and will be expanded upon and answered. Good stories reward you for paying attention, which this one does in spades. But if your brain is smooth they will still spoon feed some of the most important self referential stuff as the MC unravels the mystery in his own mind, so no need to worry about feeling lost. Perfectly balanced. . . 3. Tension and emotional investment feels real. The MC is of course important and strong, but also deeply flawed both in power and personality in ways that let the story go to really interesting places. Lesser novels make flawless characters which ends up hollow because their problems and roadblocks in the plot create no tension as they can simply fart at their problems to solve them. Since the MC (and everyone really) is flawed, the plot can play around this to create real problems that are actually difficult to solve which makes you more invested and rewarded when they finally do manage to overcome their obstacles. . . 4. The world doesn't revolve around the MC. While he is important and this is a story about his journey to become strong, he is not world defining. The world and it's dangers are stronger by a thousandfold, further working to create real tension and payoff. And the main characters and their companions don't always win. Sometimes they lose horribly, sometimes their "win" is to run away and avoid plot obstacles outright. Uncertainty around the outcome of any given confrontation leads to investment in the story and a satisfied reader. . . 5. Characters are actually more intelligent than lobotomites. At no point in this story have i asked myself "why didn't Y character just do X instead and save themselves the trouble of the last entire volume". This flows naturally from having real, grounded and flawed characters in a punishing dangerous world setting. If a character is flawless and cannot solve an issue then they are a brainlet, and I don't want to be inside their head as they slowly over the course of 500 chapters figure out that 2+2 does in fact equal 4 after all. Since characters are not brainlets that means they have actual character development as they learn from their mistakes; They mold their future actions from previous experiences which increases immersion, believeability and thus our investment in the plot. . . 6. Brevity is a virtue. This novel is dense without feeling like It's going too fast. It goes over more plot, character development and twists and turns in 300 chapters than most authors on here can manage in 3000. It really is a joy to go back and re-read to see how far they've come, and the density and complexity of the plot makes it so you catch more details that hint at future reveals on the second read. . . It's good stuff. If you are a reader and you rate some random novel 5/5 stars when it lives up to exactly zero of the six points i lay out here, i will find out where you live and put everything you cherish on top of the fridge where you can't reach it. This is a threat. Now read Shadow Slave.

I started because i wanted to know what the hype was about and why is this was number 1 here and even on webnovel. So, like any normal guy I gave it a try. Before reading it, I thought that this novel was about an MC who is slave like most stories portrayed and is bullied, torture and walk on. I thought like how can I story like this is even good without even reading it. Oh boy, how I was mistaken. Currently im on chapter 105. The plot is as thick as the thigh of Aphrodite. If you ever read LOTM, you know that cuttlefish is a genius of world building. This guy GuiltyThree is a genius of situation creation. Like he got your attention from the moment an event start to finish. Let me give you an example. Say that a character is walking in a spooky environment. Normally, you wont feel that scared because well its a story and most author failed to immerse their readers in their stories. But in this one no, you will know in what environment mc is in. What is he wearing. What is around him. The silences in this story is the loudest one in all stories i ever read. It creeps you to know that all this time the horrific ugly ghost was behind you smiling at you with red eyes wide open. Anyway you got my point. The Story is immersive af. Sometimes you would come to a crucial decision. Should i sleep or not? because these damn cliff hangerss. So my review is that this Novel is goddamn good. I would say that just like LOTM this one is also god tiered. Plot armor rarely comes because well he has an attribute that will most likely fuck him up. Bear in mind that this is my review from 105 chapters. And its so damn good. For all those who are looking for inspiration from reviews to see if its worth it. Trust me. IT IS. Good luck on your journey. Imma resume mine. See ya !
