Chapter 35: Talent Made For The University of Tokyo

Upon making some calculations, there were only three female teachers in Sakura Kyu Academy, the rest were all males.

This had something to do with the previous school atmosphere at Sakura Kyu Academy. The ordinary female teacher would not choose to teach in Sakura Kyu Academy, even if the salary was better than other high schools. The delinquents of Sakura Kyu had a reputation for harming teachers from time to time.

Hence, that was the reason why there were only male teachers in Sakura Kyu Academy before.

Although there was a turn for the better this year, the school only had three female teachers including Sakura Haruko. Thus, it was not without reason that the principal, Endo Etomi, told Kazuki that there was still hope for him.

Before that, Director Furuhashi had asked Endo Etomi to find him a private tutor from Sakura Kyu for his daughters, noting that the tutor had to be a female. Endo Etomi didn’t reject the request. Even though there were only three female teachers in Sakura Kyu, Sakura Haruko was a professional teacher and was more than capable of tutoring the Furuhashi sisters.

Yet now that Sakura Haruko had suddenly rejected his offer, he was caught off guard. Sakura Haruko was proficient in all subjects while the others were not, so he could not ask them to tutor the Furuhashi sisters.

As for the other female teacher, she was only an intern.

“Principal Endo, what’s the matter that made you call at this hour?” As soon as the call went through, a stern and steady voice reached Endo Etomi’s ears.

Endo Etomi dared not show the slightest remissness since he was merely employed by Director Furuhashi to be the principal of Sakura Kyu. The real controller of Sakura Kyu Academy was Director Furuhashi who was on the other end of the phone call.

“Director Furuhashi, it’s regarding your earlier request for a private tutor.” Endo Etomi smiled, “Initially, I was planning to entrust Sakura Kyu’s Ms. Sakura, a teacher of the sophomore year. However, she rejected the offer due to some issues, but she did recommend another teacher.”

Upon hearing Endo Etomi mention the words’ private tutor’, Furuhashi Harashin was struck with a headache. This was for no other reason than the fact that he had been hiring private tutors for his four daughters since secondary school. In hindsight, he estimated that he had hired at least tens if not hundreds of tutors for them, but their results had not improved one bit.

Due to his daughters having such horrible results, their rankings were always the bottom few during secondary school. Furuhashi Harashin was aware that the authority and influence of the Furuhashi family were mediocre at best.

He did not have the status to get his daughters into elite schools. They would still have to rely on their academic performance to make it into an elite school.

Yet his daughters were unwilling to go for tuition classes. Hence he had no alternative but to hire private tutors. Furuhashi Harashin sighed internally, this matter was as bothersome as him handling the Furuhashi Association. After a moment’s thought, he asked, “Who did Ms. Sakura Sensei?”

“Kazuki.”

“Ah, him.” Furuhashi Harashin frowned, he had never seen Kazuki in person, but he had heard of his name.

About half a year ago, Kazuki had gathered the members of the Sword Believers’ Club in the female toilets to beat up a small delinquent group led by Yodogawa Kaito. They had even played a ‘Let’s See Who Gets Luckier’ game with this group with the whole process being recorded by a female student hiding in a cubicle.

The recording was not complete and didn’t show Kazuki’s face, but once the video was uploaded onto the internet, it had still created some unrest. However, because of Endo Etomi’s quick report, Furuhashi Harashin was able to use his influence and swiftly quieted the issue.

In reality, Furuhashi Harashin had always known of the schooling atmosphere in Sakura Kyu, but he had no proper way of dealing with it. Yet this incident had made him furious at the time, and he had ordered Endo Etomi to expel Kazuki immediately. Allowing a troublemaker like that to remain in school was not a popular notion.

He had not expected Endo Etomi to defend him and further claim that he would turn the atmosphere in Sakura Kyu around. With this promise, Furuhashi Harashin let Kazuki stay in Sakura Kyu Academy to maintain Endo Etomi’s dignity.

Hence, throughout the past six months, Furuhashi Harashin had put his focus on the business of the Furuhashi Association, leaving Sakura Kyu Academy to thrive on its own. Yet he still knew that the atmosphere of Sakura Kyu Academy had become a lot better.

However, such knowledge was merely surface level. He had only made it his business to understand when his daughters applied for Sakura Kyu Academy, much to his shock and bewilderment.

He had never told his daughters that Sakura Kyu Academy belonged to their family because they had a lousy schooling atmosphere. He was against the idea of letting his daughters study at Sakura Kyu Academy.

Now, with the changes made in Sakura Kyu Academy, he was naturally satisfied enough to stop preventing his daughters from going to Sakura Kyu Academy.

As his thoughts wandered to this point, Furuhashi Harashin asked calmly, “I remember Kimura Kazuki being a delinquent, moreover he’s a guy. Are you sure he was the one recommended?”

The displeasure in Furuhashi Harashin’s tone prompted Endo Etomi to respond calmly and slowly, “Mr. Furuhashi, you may not know Kimura Kazuki well. In Sakura Kyu Academy, Kimura’s results have constantly been number one in his grade. In his freshman year, Kimura scored full marks 98 percent of the time in his monthly tests, seasonal tests, his midterms or final exams. This was statistically analyzed by the school.”

Furuhashi Harashin changed his mind. Ranking first in his grade was nothing to him because he had always thought the students in Sakura Kyu Academy were weak. Hence, ranking first among vulnerable students was not something worth mentioning.

However, getting full marks was an entirely different matter. The test papers set by Sakura Kyu Academy and other high schools are standardized. If Kazuki was able to obtain full marks in Sakura Kyu Academy, then he would be able to achieve similar results in other schools as well.

“As long as Kimura maintains his grades, the chances of him enrolling into the University of Tokyo is huge.”

In actual fact, with Kazuki’s results, his marks had totally reached the standard required. Yet in Japan, other than the standardized, nationwide first-round ‘university entrance examination,’ students were required to enter separate exams held by the individual universities themselves. These kinds of examinations were set according to the profession applied by the students.

Usually, public universities would use a ‘general test’ in the second round of exams and would use the results as a measure for entrance into the university.

Due to the decline in the population in Japan, the number of applicant students also decreases year by year. More and more private universities had started to use AO tests as entrance exams. Students would submit a self-recommendation letter, and the universities would determine if students had met the intake requirements set by the university through interviews, short essays, and other aspects.

With Kazuki’s results, he was already stepped half a foot into the University of Tokyo.

A talented student made for the University of Tokyo!

Needless to say, Furuhashi Harashin was currently very eager to meet Kazuki.

It was essential to know that the society in Japan gave utmost regard to educational background. The chances of being promoted, the degree of respect given, and social status would all mostly be determined by their educational experience and the prestige of the university they had attended.

If Kazuki enrolls into the University of Tokyo, then the students of the University of Tokyo, the elites of society would be his friends. This itself was an invisible resource!

As the helmsman of the Furuhashi Association, Furuhashi Harashin was naturally appreciative of talented people, and with such appreciation in mind, he decided to give Kazuki another chance.

However, since this matter was related to his daughters, Furuhashi Harashin contemplated for some time.

“I’ll send Senna over to Sakura Kyu Academy next week to let her investigate Kimura-Kun.”
